Deception is wide-spread and dangerous because the people who are being deceived don’t even know that they are a victim of Satan’s evil devices.
John 10:10 tells us that ‘the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy.’ There are many ways in which Satan carries out these acts but one scheme in particular can do a lot of harm if we do not aggressively put a stop to it. Deception is wide-spread and dangerous because the people who are being deceived don’t even know that they are a victim of Satan’s evil devices.
Deception is the false representation of the truth. It’s simply fraud and, unfortunately, many Christians have become vulnerable to Satan’s lies. Satan causes people to believe something that is not the truth or the whole truth. Satan causes people to withhold part of the truth, conceal or omit information. Satan causes people to exaggerate or stretch the truth if it works to their advantage. They might even understate the truth but all of these deceptive acts of the enemy are designed to mislead people, or cause people to believe something that just isn’t the truth.
John 8:32 tells us that ‘we shall know the truth and the truth will set us free.’ God has given us His Word whereby we are to judge everything that we hear before we receive it as truth. It is our responsibility to find out if the things that we believe are real or not, and if anything we hear contradicts the Word of God or the spirit of God, we are to dismiss it as being false. We are to cast down imaginary arguments and every high thing that tries to exalt itself against the knowledge of God. We are to bring into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ.
Satan used human reasoning when he deceived Eve into eating the fruit that God had told Adam not to eat. She believed Satan’s lie when he told her that they would not really die as God had said. This sounded reasonable to her, but the end result was man’s spiritual death. It is important that we obey what the Word says and not question it. If God said it, then it is true and you should always take God at His word.
God is sovereign and Satan is the deceiver who wants to draw us away from knowing the truth. Our thoughts and our actions must not be contrary to God’s Word. Knowing God’s Word is just half of what is required of us. We must also obey. Obedience is better than sacrifice and if Satan tries to convince you that you can sin and get away with it rebuke those thoughts. Disobedience will always get God’s attention. God’s eyes are everywhere and He sees both the good and the bad in all the earth. Be a Christian that is not afraid to be different. Stand up for what is right and guard your heart and mind against all manners of deception.
